The City of Westminster is a city and borough in Greater London.
It is the site of the United Kingdom's Houses of Parliament.

The City of Westminster occupies a large area of central London, including most of the West End.
Many London landmarks are within the borough, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey,
Whitehall, Westminster Cathedral, 10 Downing Street, and Trafalgar Square.

The London Eye, or the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank
of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel.

The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

It is commonly called the Houses of Parliament after the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two legislative chambers which occupy the building.

Charles Barry's collaborative design for the Palace of Westminster uses the Perpendicular Gothic style,
which was popular during the 15th century and returned during the Gothic revival of the 19th century.

At the north end of the palace is the Elizabeth Tower, commonly known as Big Ben.

The building was originally constructed in the eleventh century as a royal palace, and Westminster Hall survives from this era.

At 96 metres Big Ben is only slightly shorter than the Victoria Tower, but much slimmer.

It was called the Clock Tower until 2012, when it was renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
The Clock Tower was designed by Augustus Pugin and built after his death.

The palace is one of the centres of political life in the United Kingdom; "Westminster" has become a metonym for the UK Parliament
and the British Government, and the Westminster system of government commemorates the name of the palace.

Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, is an Anglican church in the City of Westminster.

it has been the location of the coronations of 40 English and British monarchs, and a burial site for 18 English,
Scottish, and British monarchs. At least 16 royal weddings have taken place at the abbey since 1100.

Although the origins of the church are obscure, there was certainly an abbey operating on the site by the mid-10th century housing Benedictine monks.

Nelson's Column is a monument in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, Central London, built to
commemorate Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson's decisive victory at the Battle of Trafalgar
over the combined French and Spanish navies, during which he lost his life.

The site around Trafalgar Square had been a significant landmark since the 1200s.
For centuries, distances measured from Charing Cross have served as location markers.

Buckingham Palace is a royal residence in London and the administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom.

Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality.

The Victoria Memorial is a monument to Queen Victoria, located at the end of The Mall in London by the sculptor (Sir) Thomas Brock.

Designed in 1901, it was unveiled on 16 May 1911, though it was not completed until 1924.

Originally known as Buckingham House, the building at the core of today's palace was a large townhouse built
for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 on a site that had been in private ownership for at least 150 years.

At the rear of the palace is the large and park-like garden,
which together with its lake is the largest private garden
in London. There, Queen Elizabeth II hosted her annual
garden parties each summer and also held large
functions to celebrate royal milestones,
such as jubilees.
