Estonia, officially the Republic of Estonia (Estonian: Eesti Vabariik),
is a country in Northern Europe. It is bordered to the north by the Gulf
of Finland across from Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea across from
Sweden, to the south by Latvia, and to the east by Lake Peipus and Russia.

The territory of Estonia consists of the mainland and of 2,222
islands on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.

Tallin is situated on the northern coast of the country, on the shore
of the Gulf of Finland, 80 km (50 mi) south of Helsinki. The city
was known as Reval from the 13th century until 1917 and again
during the Nazi occupation of Estonia from 1941 to 1944.

Tallinn, first mentioned in 1154, received city rights in 1248,
but the earliest human settlements date back 5,000 years.

Tallinn's Old Town in Kesklinn is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tallinn has the highest number of start-ups per person among European countries and is the birthplace
of many international high technology companies, including Skype and Transferwise.

What can arguably be considered to be Tallinn's main attractions are located in the old town of Tallinn
(divided into a "lower town" and Toompea hill) which is easily explored on foot.

St. Olaf’s Church or St. Olav's Church (Estonian: Oleviste kirik) in Tallinn, Estonia, is believed to have
been built in the 12th century and to have been the centre for old Tallinn's
Scandinavian community before Denmark conquered Tallinn in 1219.

St. Olaf's Church reportedly the tallest building in the world from 1549 to 1625.

The traditional cuisine of Tallinn reflects culinary traditions of the Northern Estonia,
the role of the city as a fishing port, and the Baltic German influence. Numerous cafés
(Estonian: Kohvik) have played a major role in a social life of the city since
the 19th century, as have bars, especially in the Kesklinn district.

Vanalinn (Estonian for "Old Town") is a subdistrict (Estonian: asum) in the district of Kesklinn (Midtown).

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Estonian: Aleksander Nevski katedraal, Russian: Александро-Невский собор (Таллинн)) is an orthodox cathedral in the Tallinn Old Town.

It was built to a design by Mikhail Preobrazhensky in a typical Russian Revival style between
1894 and 1900, during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is Tallinn's largest and grandest orthodox cupola cathedral.
